Samsung has hinted that its upcoming 'smartwatch' will be called the Galaxy Gear, as well as giving a peek at some of its likely capabilities.
A filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office classifies it as a "wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle".
The document describes it as "capable of providing access to the internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages" and "the wireless receipt, storage and/or transmission of data and messages".
Samsung could change its mind despite applying for the trademark, but the name appears to fit in well with the company's well-established Galaxy range that includes smartphones, tablets and 'phablet' devices.

More details on the Galaxy Gear, perhaps even the finished product, could be revealed at the IFA electronics trade show next month.
Samsung is set to show off its next Galaxy Note device at the show, having invited journalists to "note the date" of its September 4 showcase.
