Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has expressed his delight at being included in the Goal 50 and hopes to move up the list by making an impact at the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazil international earned a place in our list thanks to his performances for Shakhtar Donetsk last season, where he won the Ukrainian league title and reached the knockout stages of the Champions League, turning in two great performances against Chelsea along the way.

Having sealed a €40 million transfer to the Premier League runners-up in June, Fernandinho is now looking to build on those impressive performances."I am happy to be thought of like this, as one of the world's best 50 players, and I say thank you to those who think of me in this way," he told Goal.

"Last season was a memorable one for me and I was really happy with my performances. I'm looking forward to this coming season - hopefully things will get even better for me."

The 28-year-old sealed a 2-1 victory against Chelsea in last season's Champions League, which he feels was one of the high points of his campaign.

"There were many highlights last season," he enthused. "We had some great performances in the Champions League and also had domestic success in Ukraine. Scoring the goal against Chelsea in the Champions League was special."

Fernandinho joins compatriots Neymar, Dante, Fred, Thiago Silva and Paulinho on the list and he believes that Brazil's Goal 50 representatives have a great chance of winning next year's World Cup.

"Brazil always has great players and this squad is no different. I'm delighted to be involved and we'll see what happens for next summer," he continued.

"We obviously think we will have a good chance, especially in front of our own supporters. It's going to be such a special time and we will be aiming to win!"
