Captain of club and country and widely regarded as the best keeper on the African continent, the 26-year-old is determined to improve next season
South Africa star Itumeleng Khune will use his place on the Goal 50 as motivation to improve following his most successful season to date.
The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper helped his side to the domestic double with a total of 12 clean sheets in the Premier Soccer League season, as well as impressing in the Nedbank Cup where the Amakhozi beat Supersport United in extra-time in the final.
For his efforts, the 26-year-old was crowned Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season in South African football and he was also awarded the Bafana Bafana captain's armband.
To cap it off, Khune has been selected as the first-ever South African in the Goal 50.
“This is an indication that a lot of people out there appreciate our hard work," he told Goal. "I believe that being in the top 50 will motivate me and others to work harder and do well in future.”
“It is an honour to be included in the best 50 players in the world. I must admit that I didn’t see it coming, but I am very happy to be there.”
Khune was impressive as South Africa reached the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals on home soil and is determined to maintain his form for club and country.
"I don’t play to impress, but to help the team do well and win games," he said. "Last season was a success and I hope I will produce the same performance next season.”
