‘Impossible for Bernard to stay’
The midfielder's current boss believes he will leave Brazil this summer and admits it is time for him to pack his bags for Europe
Atletico Mineiro coach Cuca says Bernard has fulfilled his duties with the club and must now move on.
The midfielder played possibly his final game for the Brasileiro outfit on Wednesday, in a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Paranaense, and experienced a colourful evening after scoring and being sent off.
The 20-year-old has been linked with Porto, Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk this summer and left the pitch to rapturous applause from home supporters, with Cuca tipping him to make the move to Europe.
“You have to see all the good he did. He went from heaven to hell, but he’s a great player and is very important. The sending off also serves as a lesson to him not to do that again," he told reporters.
“He will travel, will do his stuff. I know I have to say that he has fulfilled his part. It is very difficult, almost impossible for him to stay here.”
Bernard has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals in the process.
