United consider Modric bid: With United having accepted defeat in their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas, David Moyes will turn his attentions to Real Madrid midfielder Modric, reports the Guardian. The paper claims that any offer would have to be in the region of £25 million
Paper Round's view: Modric ticks plenty of boxes, and Real could do with the cash if their mega-money bid for Gareth Bale is successful, but he is not quite the goalscoring midfielder Moyes has been after: just 13 goals in 123 starts when he was a Tottenham player and three last season in a Real shirt. Still, he's a class act and with time running out before the transfer window shuts, Moyes may feel some pressure to get this deal done.

Rooney has sly dig at Moyes: Both the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail report that Rooney has taken to Facebook to launch a thinly-veiled attack on Moyes. With United standing in the way of his wanted move to Chelsea this summer, Rooney posted some "loaded comments" just before last night's Sevilla game that contained more than a hint of sarcasm, the Mirror claims, suggesting their relationship is at breaking point.
Paper Round's view: The reports claim that Rooney wanted to play in Rio Ferdinand's testimonial against Sevilla, but Moyes chose to overlook him. And with the striker fit to play for England next week, we can assume Moyes was simply making a point by leaving him out of the match at Old Trafford. That will hardly improve the pair's already faltering relationship, and in terms of a transfer, the current stalemate is set to continue.
